Michigan State coach Tom Izzo maintains faith in Gary Harris

East Lansing ? Gary Harris insisted his bum left shoulder had nothing to do with his 1-for-11 shooting night Sunday.

The Michigan State freshman was three days removed from re-injuring the shoulder in a victory at Iowa and against Nebraska he was off the mark from the get-go.

He misfired on his first 10 shots before hitting a 3-pointer with less than two minutes to play, one that essentially locked up the 66-56 win for the Spartans.

"I feel like I'm (at) a pretty good percentage," Harris said of his shoulder after scoring just nine points. "I feel a lot better than I did in the Iowa game. I'm not sure (the percentage), but it's better than it was earlier."

Harris originally sprained the shoulder on Nov. 20 against Boise State and missed two games. Since returning, he has been trying to play as much as he could without wearing a brace.

He admitted Sunday he will have to get used to the contraption.

"It's more mental than anything," he said. "I don't feel like it impacts me that much. (Wearing the brace) I don't have to worry about it popping out."

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo insists he's not worried about Harris and commended his overall play against Nebraska, despite the difficult shooting performance.

"Gary Harris keeps working," Izzo said. "I don't know how to explain it, he just keeps working at both ends. We're expecting more and more out of him because he has so much to give. He was 1-for-11 and we set up that play for him to get the shot. I don't even think about it with him. In no way shape or form am I worried about Gary Harris. He is one of the last guys I'm worried about."

Izzo not happy with dunk

Izzo and Nebraska coach Tim Miles had a long discussion after the game.

Izzo wanted Miles to know he didn't love the last-second alley-oop slam dunk from Keith Appling to Branden Dawson and Miles wanted Izzo to know his player, Ray Gallegos , didn't try to hit Dawson on the play he was injured.

Miles' reaction to the dunk?

"That's fine, it's part of the game," he said. "We were running around pressing them, so why not?"

And Izzo wanted to assure Miles he knew there was no contact on the Dawson play.

"There was nothing there," Izzo said. "He wasn't even touched when he went down."

Kearney picks Arizona State

Former Michigan State guard Brandan Kearney has apparently found a new home.

According to several sources, the sophomore, who announced last month he was transferring from Michigan State, will play next season at Arizona State.

Kearney (Detroit Southeastern) will be eligible to play at the end of the fall semester. He averaged 2.3 points in almost 17 minutes a game for the Spartans.

"I know I parted ways with @MSU_Basketball a few weeks ago! But it would be selfish of my family and I not to thank @MSU_Basketball," Kearney said on his Twitter account.
