Basingstoke man embarks on gruelling charity challenge running from Paris to London in six days

IF THIS hot weather keeps up, the heat will definitely be on for marathon man Alex Johnson as he aims to run 215 miles in six days for charity.
Alex, above, will run the equivalent of nearly a marathon-and-a-half every day as he sets about making it from Paris to London on foot.
Alex, 25, will begin the epic run on Sunday, July 28, and hopes to complete the challenge in London on Friday, August 2.
He will run from Paris to Le Havre, take the ferry to Portsmouth and then run up to London.
He said: ?I have done marathons before, and in training I have run 20 miles on consecutive days, but I?ve never run this many miles in that short a space of time.
?It will definitely be a challenge. Everyone?s calling me mad, but I am sort of looking forward to it.?
Alex will be joined by various friends for sections of the UK part of the run.
He is aiming to raise ?5,000 to split between Basingstoke charity RadCan, the chosen charity of the year of the AA, where he works as an analyst, and national charity Muscular Dystrophy. RadCan is fundraising for a radiotherapy facility in Basingstoke.
He said: ?It is a great charity. I?ve had some close family and friends who have been affected by cancer.?
Alex has so far raised more than ?2,000 and will be holding a live music evening for both charities on Friday, August 23, at Basingstoke Rugby Football Club.
Alex said: ?The club have kindly let me book their venue for free, Anytime Fitness Basingstoke have provided me with running kit and the AA have helped to plan the cycle ride with hotels along the way, so I?d like to say thanks to all of them.?
